Some More Art

Hello again. I'm currently heading for my 5 months time in a sharehouse and I'm steadily cruising along with a decline of certain dramas. At least I've been resuming my art projects from last year with a line of paintings consisting of my Abstract Mrs Brinks, Black Sheep Banned, How?, The Unmerciful Lowe and Oppression Against Individuality. And steadily, I'm opening doors to some exhibition prospects and having people admiring my artworks. And I'm also bettering and challenging myself with every painting I work on.

I'll show you this.

What you're seeing is my agenda of my artworks I wish to exhibit when I'll have my own art exhibition. If you're wandering why, I came up with the intention of doing my art exhibition titled Talking Points which is all about issues personally, with society and unfavourable perspectives I'm willing to display.

I've mentioned Rusting Head because the painting had been seen as much. After my mum mentioned the painting is good, I've decided to exhibit the painting when it was done 14 years ago.

And this is the Rusting Head painting I've done. That was when the whole Covid epidemic struck the world along with lockdowns to prevent further spreading of the coronavirus. As you can see, this is a bust that's rusting away. With the case we're doing nothing, we seem to lose function of our minds so we're more forgetful, diminishing our interests, not able to socialise as much and not behaving in a good way along with a drop in patience.

Also in the agenda, I've added 2 new projects lined up including Alcoholism the Australian Way and Fossil Fuel Central which are evident issues in Australia's society.

This is one sneak peak for the Alcoholism the Australian Way. I'll intend to use Healthy Harold, the Life Education mascot and the reason behind it is because Life Education is a program educating school students about risks of taking drugs and alcohol and I can still remember the sessions I've had. On the other side lies Australia's drinking culture. I've never been big on alcohol but there's the whole absurdity of people drinking and worse, get themselves drunk causing big problems with fights, drink driving, dependence on alcohol and also effects on their personal health. These are hard on our resources for police and hospitals as well as families and friends with associates being hospitalised or devastatingly end up dead.

When I'll feature Healthy Harold in the project, I'll have him in disbelief. And that's all so far, I'll now move to my current art progressions.

In February, I've resumed my art projects and eventually completed my painting titled You Will Fail.

This painting is symbolic to negativity we get swamped by and any bright ideas we come up with bound for failure. Even news reports from Sky News definitely hits the spot. And then, I made another painting called Terra Cotta People.

This is another art project that's new to me. I took inspiration from the Terra Cotta Warriors in China and then applied the idea to this canvas. The whole objective in this painting is about people doing nothing and then I've had a task of working out making this particular colour of brown. I've added cadmium red which is slightly orange along with the warm yellow and brown paints, mixed them and created the terra cotta colour. I've even checked with my room mate who's currently an apprentice tiler.

And later, this Terra Cotta People painting is complete.

Then there's the eighth art project which I'll title Just a Shadow. This is all about appearing somewhere but you don't seem to appear to any other person and expressing a feeling of being left in a corner as well. I've had this sketched out and ready to commence painting but then, there comes a twist.

With monthly SECAN meetings, all of us members were given word of the month. At first, I wasn't understanding what was going on until I heard the artworks based on words of the month will be exhibited in December. Strangely when we were all discussing the word of the month precariousness, I didn't realise the Terra Cotta People painting has some precariousness. But in April, SECAN came up with the word of the month which is courage. I took the challenge on doing a painting representing courage whilst being a personal project. With the Just a Shadow project pushed aside, I've started doing A Young Battler.

During the brainstorming and sketching processes, I've been able to concoct what I wanted to display in my painting.

With the sketches done to my satisfaction, I started painting. There's one little dilemma I'll show you.

This is where I currently work on my paintings. In the carport. In times of rough wet weather and the area not entirely weatherproof, working on my paintings wouldn't be too wise especially with winter coming up. With my paintings I've kept, I've decided to move my paintings into my storage unit just to prevent any potential damage. And not only that, I met Sue at a previous SECAN meeting and mentioned an option to me to hire the Noble Park Tennis Club to work on my new paintings. We've arranged to meet up at the tennis court and then liked the idea. The proposed rent will be $50 AUD a month but that'll be temporary until our winter will be over.

Now. My current painting.

First, I started sketching out the shapes. It may look hard to see in this picture but I can explain my strategy I've recently adopted. I've used 3 coloured pencils; an aqua pencil to roughly sketch, a dark green to draw out the background and a purple pencil to draw people to feature in the painting.

Next, I've painted the outlines and once the black paint dries, here comes the stages of colouring from the background, houses, the ground and people.

So then, the areas are covered with the paint I've used.

And then, I re-apply the edges. The whole idea is to build up adding layers of paint to create a proper picture. The quest I thought up of lately is whether I'll complete this painting on the coming month whilst the weather isn't too bad. In a way, it could save me from renting the Noble Park Tennis Club to continue the painting.

I've even mentioned starting this painting in my previous post which I'll include.

With that out of the way, Karen who's one of the SECAN members mentioned I should do an arts catalogue describing the painting with the mediums used, date when complete along with the picture of each painting then typed up the narrative each.

This is currently a sample. I've made the art catalogue as a Word Document and it seemed to look good. I hoped to make a template but with the current Microsoft Word I have. I wasn't able to do so.

There was one absurdity on the first Saturday of the month (Saturday 4th of May to be precise) as I was arriving for the monthly meeting at 3 o'clock to end up in the art exhibition 'A Moment In Time....'.

So this is the photo I've taken at the exhibition which is a series of paintings and botanical sculptures. I know as a future reference monthly meetings will commence 2 o'clock on every first Saturday of the month.

And that's the progress covered for now.

Before I'll close up, I like to talk about my style of art. My paintings and other works are mainly abstract which uses colours, shapes and lines. My paintings display strong emphasis with objects, settings and making great use of colours. There are some strange comments which I'll state.

One person mentioned my style of art which is similar to Picasso's artworks.

With this 1937 painting The Weeping Woman, I partly get where she's coming from. Unlike Pable Picasso, his style is more cubism but more erratic visually than my paintings. I can describe one car design language utilising cubism which is used for the current generation Hyundai Santa Fe. There's one thing that offers a similarity other than cubism.

With this PlayStation 2 game Rogue Galaxy, it's intriguing how this action role playing game is made to be anime styled. With the boldness I notice, that strangely allows me to compare that to my paintings than Picasso himself.

And finally, I'll show you a couple of my paintings.

This painting of Mrs Brinks is the start of my resurrected hobby of art since my new move. That was done in March last year.

And years back, I've done this painting titled The Passion of Rear Wheel Drive. I'm not intending to sell my paintings as I'm currently building up my new portfolio. But other than that, there are a few artworks I've sold and given away. With this painting, I'm intending to give it as a present for my work colleague Cody once he'll pass his driving test.

In the end of the day, I got people cherishing my artistic talents but my intentions aren't over yet.

Firstly, I'll participate in the challenges art exhibition at SECAN in December featuring A Young Battler as well as Terra Cotta people. Next, a hope to have another exhibition with more of my paintings to exhibit and years later, I've eventually have my grand art exhibition.

See you next time!
