Politics or Home and Away?

Hello again.

Do you ever come across on the news about anything to do with politics? Promises, scandals, opposition briefings, news polls, resignations and never ending backlashes from communities. There is so much of these I come across and you beg to think why you would want to trust a politician. Even when I was a teenager approaching the minimum age to enroll for voting for federal and state elections, I'm astounded how much of a mess politics in Australia is in.

We are in a democracy but throughout the political world, there are constant conflicts from opposing parties along with barriers that get in the way to make Australia better which greatly irritates me. And lately, we have a mountain of problems politicians will need to sort out but it's more battling one another and when it's referred as a circus, I think of it is more like a soap opera.

So that's how I came up with the title for this post using the Home and Away reference. For those who aren't aware, Home and Away has always been a long running soap opera on channel 7. There's the fictional place called Summer Bay but although I never want to watch it, there are always big bad issues that go on. Advertisements for them are good enough to determine what goes on and I wouldn't say they're pretty.

There was also a time when I first made a similarity between those. I can remember a few years back when I was driving with my mum and when the news is on the radio, I said I'd rather watch Home and Away than put up with politics. She found it amusing and that is this phrase coined by myself.

But with politics driving me mad and others less keen these days, I thought I'll do something that can alleviate my feelings of frustrations. By doing a drawing involving political satire.

So on Wednesday the 7th, I got myself a sketch book along with another tube of oil paint as well as the picture of Jeff Kennett and an old artist impression of a Tyrannosaurus and with all this, I'll do a Kennettosaurus Rex. And if you're wandering about Jeff Kennett, he's one of the past Victorian premiers but on the Liberal side.

And the next day after a satisfactory sketch, I went on with a piece of A3 paper and my kit of Faber Castel coloured pencils and the result is spectacular and I'm literally obsessed with it.

I'm thinking later because this drawing is so good, I'll look to get it framed. But other than that, I have done a load of pop satirical drawings earlier and I've dug into folders of the drawings and found a small batch of those that have political connotations.

My first pop and also political satire drawing is of Clive Palmer. Originally, he's a mining magnate of nickel mines in Queensland and then set about getting into politics forming his own party called the Palmer United Party. Then later, the United Australia Party but when times come for federal and/or state elections, you'll be blown away how many political ads that appear on our TV screens and on newspapers which run into thousands. His intention is to topple the major parties chiefly Liberal and Labor parties but he has ran into controversies. Not much of a good look.

So this drawing I've made Clive Palmer as a Nyan Cat. Iconic on YouTube but annoying at the same time.

There's this $50 pot and Palmer drawing. I took a bit of a marketing piece with the $20 pot and parma deal in pub style restaurants in Australia. This is a deal when you pay $20 with a chicken parmigiana meal along with a pot of beer but because parma and Palmer sound the same, I went all in and this the picture I've drawn with Clive Palmer both thumbs up.

But then, I've done another one of Peter Dutton who's now the opposition of the Liberal party.

Some people resemble him as Lord Voldemort, I however thought of something different. Back when I was a boy, we've had a floppy disc containing some old computer games and when I came across Wizard's Doom, the screen of the grim reaper struck me.

And this is it.

I've also done 2 foreign politicans but not too vile.

There's Donald Trump. His smile makes me feel iffy but on the other hand, I felt like drawing this with him holding up a broccoli cream pie. Who wants it?

With Boris Johnson, I remembered years back when Beanie Kids were a thing, I got myself one being a Brontosaurus simply named Boris. In this drawing, Ive added Boris Johnson's hair onto the other Boris's head. And to conclude all this, I also drew Homer Simpson wearing a suit and tie like politicians do and added 'Homer Simpson for Nationals MP'.

And reflecting how bad politics gets, this sums it all up.

With that out of the way, there's some good news which has happened earlier. I've been offloading so anything I don't need anymore I intend to sell with my low profile jack and my digital camera that I no longer use.

I've put this jack on sale then sold it the next day for $100 AUD. Back when I bought it at work, it was around that price with my staff discount.

Next was the digital camera. I've put it on sale for $80 AUD and later after a few time wasters on Facebook and one price reduction, a potential buyer was keen and offered me $50 AUD. I suggested $60 AUD and we sealed the deal.

And that's all from me. See you next time!
