Five Paintings and Another Art Piece

Hello again and this time, I'll focus on my art. So far, I've done 4 paintings, I've decided on doing my own art exhibition and taking on board new things being a first timer and also going to SECAN. With SECAN being the abbreviation for South East Contemporary Arts Network, it's a good avenue where I can interact with other artistic people in the outer South East of Melbourne. And also, it'll be good to rely on other people who are in the art community especially when I've had struggles to break in after approaching 2 years in my new lifestyle.

But now, I want to concentrate on my fifth painting which I title Oppression Against Individuality.

In this painting, I wanted to visualise what it's like to not be accepted for your unique personal appearance so I have a guy on the left with longer than usual hair and coloured red and the girl beside him with lilac coloured hair and vice versa. Both people's appearances are out of the ordinary from the general public and with their orange jumpsuits and the light grey background, I wanted to recreate a mugshot with the case of criminals in their process of imprisonment. This creates an unpleasant atmosphere which I wanted to which in the way it's not fun not being accepted to look like you're out of the ordinary.

It can be a case for myself as I like to have long hair where nice and short hair on guys is more accepted but I'm no longer a fan of having my hair short. And in some cases, glasses don't always get favoured as cool but with my circumstances, I wear glasses because I'm short sighted and I need to wear distance glasses especially for when I drive. I'll never use contact lenses as there'll be too fiddly and wearing glasses is more easy for me.

And let's face it. We're all different but some people don't always accept other people's differences which is sad and downright hard to fit in. If I ever have something to say for anyone who doesn't accept my personal appearances, I'll say to them tough luck.

But with that out of the way, I've been resuming my Cheap Shoes art piece earlier. I went back to the project on Saturday the 4th of November with the top surface of the board painted white. I've had a chance to take the photo with the shoes on top to get the idea of the finished piece.

On the last stages, I've made the start of painting the edges black.

I've got out the roll of masking tape from my stash chest and taped it up which is the next day.

And with my workbench and tarp out, I've painted the edges black and sanded evenly then giving it 2 extra coats of black paint. When it's dry enough, I've peeled the masking tape off but as I've discovered a tiny bit of paint bleed which is some trace of paint you don't want on a particular surface, it's fixed with a wipe of methylated spirits and the board is all good again.

And one last photo before completion, it looks better as it progresses.

Whilst I've been working on the project, I'm wanting to go to SECAN for the general meetup. However, it was closed but then, I've looked on their website to find there's an art exhibition by one of the members. Her name's Marilyn and her exhibition consists of her acrylic paintings with the beach theme going. I've interacted with other people including Marilyn's family members and I've even brought my Oppression Against Individuality painting.

And on Tuesday the 7th of November being the Melbourne Cup holiday, I've concentrated on getting the 2 art projects completed but funny enough how it's said the Melbourne Cup race stops the nation, it wouldn't do much as I've never been into horse racing.

But then with the last of the epoxy glue, I've glued the shoes onto the board and with my signature and date, it's all done and in the loungeroom shelf.

In terms of The Castle's Daryl Kerrigan putting collectables straight to the pool room, it wouldn't be the case with my house being a 2 bedroom unit but here is this work of art.

And on Saturday, I went to work on getting the painting finished and it's all done and dusted. The only things it'll need doing is have the edges painted black and the hanging wire along with the D hooks attached and it'll be ready to be hung on a wall.

So as of 2023, I have completed 5 paintings and with my art exhibition I'm planning on doing, I have 5 paintings so far and as I come up with more projects on my list, I currently have 14 all together as earlier, I was intending to exhibit 10 artworks. And then, I've decided to make my own Spotify playlist as my very own soundtrack which'll go with my exhibition.

And I'll look to concentrate on attending SECAN meetups and every now and again visit the art studio in Richmond and meet up with other artists and another thing, I'm thinking of opening up my own Instagram account where I can potentially connect with more people who share the same passions unlike Facebook these days as interactions are becoming more dead in the water.

One random question I came up with is would I be able to topple Kylie Minogue?

See you next time!
