Getting There

Hello again. We're coming towards the end of October and I'm also in the stage I'm still having trouble making friends particularly in Pakenham so then I'm having to really get myself out there. But since the last post, I've gone to a car meet at the Sunlock Cafe in Clayton South where I've mingled with some people with success. And then recently, I went over to an opening night at the Spielzeit exhibition east of Richmond. But let's talk about the art exhibition.

As I've finished a hard day at work on Friday and despite not able to order a burger meal from Carls Jr through Uber Eats not able to pick it up, I have ordered a kebab meal not too far from work and caught a train from the Dandenong railway station on my way to the exhibition.

Where the exhibition is at, the Swan Street Art Studios (was called Gallery 550) is kind of an oasis for everything art but I hadn't been there for the first time. I've visited there a few times to meet some people there particularly Luis where he gave me a tour and that is an experience to treasure. And another visit, I've picked up a pamphlet for the Spielzeit art exhibition and with the artist Steven, I felt like sending him an e-mail to introduce myself and what art I've been doing.

A week or so later, Steven got back to me and he's been pleased I've reached out to him. And then that Friday night, I was able to meet up with him in person and went about exploring his insights and asked him some questions a bit about starting an art exhibition. The Spielzeit exhbition Steven mentioned is his third exhibition to date. And other things, time will be needed to plan the exhibition. Steven suggested 6 months to get everything organised.

But other than that, I've taken mental notes including catering (drinks included), some background music and another person hosting in a way with the case of Steven's partner Leo who's task is to greet people. With all this out of the way,  I've scanned the catalogue of his artworks for everyone else to see.

What I've learnt there in regards to his style is his use of vibrant colours given his queer nature. The most intriguing artwork is Subliminal. If you have a closer look, you'll find 'LOVE ME' adhered to the canvas then covered with acrylic paint. But then comes an outcome. When I've asked Steven about keeping in touch through e-mail, he's happy with my idea and it's much needed for when I'm building up my life.

Earlier on the 7th of October, I went to a car meet at the Sunlock Cafe for the first time. There, I've met Mitchell who's the organiser for the car meet and as it happened, he's the manager for the My Unique Rides group which is on Facebook. Along with him and his girlfriend Sharnee, I've been having a decent conversation even when I've worked on my second car which was the 2006 Holden Astra. Next, I've met Max where she's running the Trilax stall selling their merchandise. I then came with an idea I could sell posters of my car drawings.

Apart from the drawing of my project AU Falcon concept, I drew this one based on a K12 Nissan Micra.

This is my second project car I thought of. I thought of having a Nissan Micra like this one and look to make it a hot hatch and fulfill my Nissan fanboy fantasy. What I'd like to do if I've been given the opportunity, I would make this more like an Intense Red Nissan GT-R with the black wheels and orange coloured brake calipers. Along with it, I would modify the engine and have it turbocharged and swap for a 6 speed manual gearbox and the brakes from a Nissan Tiida. And redo the interior.

Next up is a Daihatsu Pyzar. I reckon it'll be a good sleeper once there's a turbocharger fitted. When stock, these wagons come with a modest 1.5 litre engine and this will be a good opportunity to express how Japanese cars have a tendency to be mundane. Being reliable and easy to live with, they're ideal for people who need a car to get from A to B. But then, there are car fans that'll say they're whitegoods on wheels particularly with Toyotas but lately, they're serious about not letting their cars just be like appliances on wheels. You'll find the new Toyotas' styling is more cutting edge. And in terms of sporty models, their GR Yaris is a game changer in terms of performance along with exploring Hydrogen as an alternative to internal combustion engines.

To date, the Micra and the Daihatsu shall definitely please JDM fans and next, I'll look to draw a black and white Peugeot 307 CC and the reason being why not?

What I admire about the 307 CC is it's a hardtop convertible since the Mercedes Benz SLK. What I want to do is have the roof and doors white and the rest black.

And other things, I've got my new car towards the end of last month with great courtesy of Coffey Ford.

The dealership had taken a great length to get me having a car again. This Ford Puma ST Line was an ex demonstrator but once I've put in a deposit and all go with the financing, this one is mine.

And also, I got myself another bank account where I can use it for my new hobby working on cars. And whilst I'm waiting till the start of next year, I've saved a few cheap cars on the Facebook Marketplace for next time.

But before I bring this to a close, I came across this video on YouTube I've watched today which is about not saving money. Especially when it's hard to save up big, I realise it mightn't be worth the effort but as long as I can make money elsewhere, it wouldn't be too big to worry about.

See you next time!
