Bads and Goods

Hello and welcome back. From the latest post, it's been a hard time since I've been involved in a crash last month as I've finished my shift at the Dandenong Repco store but if you've recently got into this blog for the first time, don't worry. I'll bring that up.

It was Monday the 7th of August. I have completed my shift at this store but although I usually work 9 til 5, I've knocked off earlier as I've had my psychologist appointment. However, that hadn't gone ahead as the crash occurred. As I was attempting to drive out of the driveway from Sterling Parts where I've usually parked, I tried to enter Bennet Street safely but another car ran into me.

The area was a crash scene. All the emergency services came and sorted out, both cars were towed away and I was in a state of disbelief not knowing what I'll do next. On the other hand, the staff at the store had assisted me especially an uber ride back home on my behalf. The Doveton store where I mainly work were notified and felt all okay. I've taken the next day off which is a good option for me and had a good break as well. What I know since I've moved to Pakenham is there's access to public transport. From where I live, there's a bus stop at the Pakenham Hills Primary School along with the Pakenham metro train plus a network of buses to utilise.

Using public transport is a thing I've had to adjust. Although I won't be spending money on petrol, I can use my myki card and put money into it instead. So, the myki system is an electronic ticketing system you use when you take public transport. The system is exclusive in Victoria, the Australian state I currently live in. There are some things that can be a bugbear such as doing my shopping as I can only do 2 bags worth. And then, having to wait for trains and buses I'm needing to catch and any spare time which I have plenty is sort of hard when I don't know how to kill time.

In the meantime, I've gone through claiming on my insurance and all is well until my car's assessed but sadly is written off. I thought I could get away, with it getting repaired but it didn't happen. And then comes the time getting my belongings out of my car.

On Wednesday, I went to a towing depot in Dandenong who they've towed my car. Hoping to get to my car there, I was given the news it's moved to Tullamarine at the Pickles auction site. Whilst I was walking to the Dandenong Repco store to give them my updates, I've had a chance to take this picture of the site on Bennet Street where the accident occurred.

As you can see, Bennet Street is a 2 lane stretch of road in Dandenong with a 60 km/h speed limit. And with it, banks of parked cars are amok. While I'm at it, I might show some crash testing in this video provided. From what I know cars crash tested are propelled at 64 km/h (40 mph) into a deformative barrier and if you think the speed isn't much of a worry, you may want to think again.

With that out of the way, I've made an appointment to visit the auction site the next day. I had to take a series of trains and buses. First, I took the Pakenham train to Melbourne where I needed to catch the Sunbury train and get off at Broadmeadows. Then, I'll catch a bus to take me to Tullamarine.

I went over to the site where I was directed to my car and then took out the rest of the bags and other stuff including the garage door opener. And this was a good chance to take a couple of pictures and then, my car's done for.

All through to September which is now, my insurance eventually settled my claim and gave me a payout. Now it's in my bank account, the next step is to sort out getting a loan from my bank.

The catch with a financing company through a dealership is putting up with fees along with the loan repayments but as I was bringing up talks about getting a loan from my bank, people do seem it's a better bet.

And while I'm there, I've been keeping contact with more people. I've been visiting my local men's shed to fill in time and expand my social circles. I've met up with Chris, exchanged numbers and he hopes to contact another guy to hopefully help me get into a workshop where I can hopefully work on cars.

As well as him, I've been keeping in touch with a few people through Facebook who are within the same south east area which is pleasing.

And for something completely different, I came up with an idea of growing my own tomatoes at the back of my unit. There was one time I hadn't much to do so I went to the Lakeside Bunnings store and had a look. That gave me a new opportunity for something to do.

Later, I've harvested these seeds from a used tomato as you can see here.

So now, this is the light at the end of the tunnel.

And with a car I'm intending to buy by the way, I'd like to buy another Ford Puma.

See you next time!
