Lawn Mowers Accomplished
Hello and welcome back. It's been pleasing to have my Astra running again thanks to myself replacing the radiator. Another satisfying moment is when I've finally sold my lawn mower after weeks on sale in the Facebook Marketplace and then comes the moment I'll call the objective on flipping lawn mowers a success.
If you can recall last year, I've decided to pick up a new skill working on cars as a financial booster and to do a project car as one of the things to do on my bucket list. My parents suggested to me I should buy cheap lawn mowers to fix and sell which I eventually accepted. It may be strange for anyone thinking I live in a unit in Pakenham where there isn't an actual lawn but the backyard is a good enough size to work out on lawn mowers I've bought to fix up.
But this page I'll make will be a good educational topic for anyone wanting to taking up a hobby flipping which is buying something cheap to fix and sell for a profit. People flip many things including houses and anything you watch on 9Life is a great experience and satisfying processes of flipping houses. Starting on lawn mowers is a good stepping point as cars would be way more daunting with a lot of things to bear in mind along with ever going emissions and safety regulations.
First of all, you'll need a sum of money and then you go looking for anything that's cheap but in bad condition. If it's repairable, buy it. Next, you'll need to buy some components for whatever needs fixing or replacing.
Once it's all good working condition, you sell it. You'll need to include the amount you've bought the whole item and the parts included. You'll then need to set the price that's more than the amount you've spent on the item to earn some profit.
What I've been using to flip lawn mowers is on the Facebook Marketplace. I go on and look for cheap lawn mowers that aren't in good working order but can be repairable. I then buy the parts and once it's all fixed. I put it on sale in the Facebook Marketplace and eventually, they're sold.
I'll now give you the rundown of every lawn mower I have flipped and sold.
Cheetah 4 stroke lawn mower
Billy Goat T475 lawn mower
Bought for $50 AUD
Replaced spark plug $3.60 AUD
Total spent $53.60
Sold for $80 AUD
Profit $26.40 AUD
Other repairs included oil change and a good clean.
Rover ES lawn mower
Replaced spark plug $2.45 AUD
Total spent $42.45 AUD
Sold for $80
Profit $37.55 AUD
And then there was a big repair. In the description when this lawn mower was on sale, the petrol had been contaminated. This was a good learning curve for me as I've drained the dirty petrol out and have been filling it up with fresh petrol. Eventually as I was giving it a number of runs, it was smokey but eventually, it clears up and is better to start and then, I went about cleaning the carburetor just by spraying it with throttle cleaner. And finally, I've changed the oil and it's good as new.
Sprinter Briggs & Stratton 450 Series lawn mower
Bought for $50 AUD
Replaced spark plug $2.55 AUD
Replaced handle bar knobs $9 AUD
Total spent $61.55 AUD
Sold for $80 AUD
Profit $18.45 AUD
And that's the 5 lawn mowers I have successfully flipped and in other peoples' hands. One thing to note with the spark plugs, I've bought them from Repco and because I work for them, I get a staff discount.
But now comes the sixth lawn mower. And this has an interesting story but here it goes.
Rover Briggs & Stratton Series 200 lawn mower
Starter repaired $45 AUD
Spark plug replaced $2.42 AUD
Blades replaced $32 AUD
Handle bar knobs replaced $10 AUD
Air filter replaced $5.50 AUD
Other repairs included oil change, fuel tank drained and replenished and the muffler and handle bars repainted.
Total spent $124.92 AUD
Now came the troubles of selling it. Bearing in mind how much I've spent on this lawn mower, I have set the price of $150 AUD but then, I've had a few low ball offers such as $100 AUD which wouldn't cover the total costs. It was towards the end of last year when I've put it on sale in the Facebook Marketplace. Without any luck, I took it off sale and at the time I was using money for my financial building hobby, I've put the amount of money to replenish it and it was mine. But this year, I've decided to sell it as I was running short on money and it wasn't being used.
So I've put it on Facebook Marketplace again only to come across a dozen time wasters asking me whether it's available but not committing in any way to come over. It was really annoying and at some point raring to give up. But one person who came over from Drouin bought it. That was on Tuesday the 2nd of May and I sold it for $100 AUD.
Being satisfied about all the lawn mowers sold along with the Astra running on the new radiator, I felt it's time to call it a success and close this chapter.
And saying that on Thursday the 4th of May, I've taken this catcher to give it away at the Cameron Street Mowerworld in Cranbourne.
See you next time!
