Back to Flipping Lawn Mowers

 Hello everyone.

I hadn't gone flipping lawn mowers lately but I've been hit with financial constraint. I was short on money for the moment but however, I came up with an idea to flip lawn mowers again and whilst making profits to weather my finances.

Back last year, my dad suggested me to flip mowers. That is buying cheap ones to fix and sell. I initially used my hobby money so I won't use my normal money just to give it a go and so far, I have sold 2 I had fixed up. Although there is one lawn mower I couldn't sell because people on Facebook were wanting cheap ones. I've advertised the mower for $150 AUD but a couple are wanting to pay $100 AUD but that wouldn't cover the amount of money I've put into it.

But then I've been thinking whether Facebook is not what it's cracked up to be. Are there people these days don't have any form of intelligence? This is what I'm apparently noticing lately. And it's also hard to figure out whether how many people in my age group use this social media platform. But that can be the bad reality with using social media but enough of that, let's just go back to the main topic. Flipping lawn mowers again.

On Saturday the 25th of March, I've bought this lawn mower for $30 AUD and not too far from where I live in Pakenham.

The biggest problem with the mower was the throttle cable was too short so I couldn't move the throttle lever fully back. Otherwise, anyone wouldn't be able to shut the engine off if the mowing is done.

The next day, I went on washing the mower along with buying a new spark plug and a throttle cable.

And I have also bought a pack of 5 mm nuts to hold the throttle lever to the handle bars as it's original bolts weren't too correct so I insisted on replacing them.

And then, there comes replacing the throttle cable. It's rather hard and tricky especially it's the first time ever I encountered this job.

One of the things I've learnt when replacing the throttle cable is it has 2 cables. The inner cable slides inside the outer casing and as I found out is responsible for pushing and pulling.

And here are some offcuts.

This is one fiddly job hooking one end of the cable to this throttle lever. Whilst the half of the moulding is out.

Next, the throttle needed cleaning. That was before.

The day after, I went over to Dandy Bolts to buy a pair of bolts. I thought I'll try Repco but unfortunately, I couldn't find the right size. And test fitted the nuts.

Next is swapping the old bolts for these new ones.

And then came the issue of the throttle cable. When everything is attached, the whole cable slides forward when I position the lever to choke. I've trimmed a little bit then secured the outer cable to the throttle lever's casing so it won't pop out.

Finally, I've changed the oil and spark plug, filled the mower with fresh petrol and got it running.

And when it's all complete, I gave it a final wash and then, put it on sale at the Facebook Marketplace.

I've set the price for $80 AUD. I've had one potential buyer offered me $72 AUD. I've looked carefully and it's more than what I've put in this mower including purchase price and I accepted her offer. This left me with a profit of $24.15 AUD.

It's great my dad has been helpful. We kept in touch through Facebook and taken photos for him to see and corrected them as I go.

And that's all for now.

See you next time!
